Internet filtering is one thing you can do at home to keep your kids safe online. In Keep your kids safe online: All you need to know about internet safety at school and home, Allconnect author David Anders advises what to ask your Internet Service Provider about its settings (each one has different settings), and provides tips to keep your kids safe online at home. He also discusses the importance of discussing internet safety with your kids and encouraging them to make smart choices while online – whether it is at home or school.

Anders’ provides tips to keep your kids safe online

  • Set up internet filtering
  • Block websites and keywords you don’t want your child to access
  • Schedule when your child can access the internet
  • Add your “trusted devices” to bypass parental control settings

Read each tip in full here.

Further, Anders says “Internet filtering in public schools and libraries falls under the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA)“, but these laws may not extend to the home. Know what your state requires of your schools and public libraries to keep your kids safe online. Find CIPA laws for your state listed in Anders’ article.
