Starting Therapy :: What Others Wished They Knew Before Starting

May 12, 2022 by Lisa Herrick, Ph.D. Leave a Comment

In this BuzzFeed article “People Who’ve Been To Therapy Are Sharing What They Wish They Knew Before Starting, And It’s Sparking An Important Conversation” by Victoria Vouloumanos, people who’ve been in therapy share what they wish they knew before starting.

Like many things in life, therapy can involve a lot of trial and error. When making the decision to go, you might not even know what to expect (or Google). This can make the whole process more daunting or exhausting than it needs to be.

Ms. Vouloumanos’ article contains comments from a significant number of people surveyed in the BuzzFeed Community that you may find helpful in making a decision to start therapy, or not.

Pyschological Services in the Era of the Coronavirus

I have started seeing clients in person during limited hours at my Falls Church and Dupont Circle offices. I will continue to offer telehealth services to connect with my clients who wish to meet virtually.

It has been such a hard time for all of us, so I am continuing to do what I can to be flexible in my practice to attend to the needs of each client. Some still have children at home all day, others are financially strained.

I welcome new clients and hope to continue to figure out creative ways to connect with everyone who seeks my help.
